TSL: SFN - Nature Spirituality and Environmental Crisis w/ Roger S. Gottlieb

Roger S. Gottlieb is a professor of philosophy at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and one of the leading voices in religious environmentalism, with more than two decades of work spanning environmental ethics, contemporary spirituality, and fiction across over twenty books. He joins the show to discuss his new book, Nature Spirituality and Environmental Crisis: Embracing a Sacred, Wounded Earth (Bloomsbury, September 3), which asks whether nature can still offer spiritual meaning now that the natural world people have long turned to for wonder and peace is being burned, poisoned, and driven extinct. Drawing on decades of work in religious environmentalism and moral philosophy, Gottlieb argues that nature spirituality has to change shape to survive — becoming a practice where grief and gratitude, outrage and love, can coexist rather than cancel each other out.
